While Sound & Vision may be a large company, all designs are created by a head designer and two interns. Thijs Horseling serves as the head designer, and this semester, Vera and I were the interns. Though the team is quite small, this arrangement provides us with many assignments that are actually implemented in real-world applications.
The workload at Sound & Vision fluctuates considerably. For instance, February was extremely busy with My First Smartphone Festival, while May was relatively quieter. Thijs has implemented a well-designed planning and management system. This includes a Gmail-based system that tracks which assignments haven’t been started yet, which are in progress, and who is working on them. Assignments are frequently discussed together to identify potential improvements. Of course, feedback from the client is always requested before finalizing or ordering any materials.
My work ranged from creating headers and footers for Event Connect newsletters to developing stock sheets for artists. Much of this content is naturally displayed or shared online. Additionally, I created block schedules and designed an image for the podcast ‘Herrijzend Nederland’.
From placemats and vouchers to posters, I created numerous materials at Sound & Vision, handling projects from conception to completion. I am very proud of how I took on each task and developed them thoroughly. I successfully incorporated the brand identity into high-quality final products and satisfied all clients with the end results. I maintained good, open communication and regularly sought feedback from others, including Thijs.
My First Smartphone Festival was created for young children and their parents to reflect on their first mobile phones and how to handle them responsibly. A brand identity had already been established for this festival, and I was given the opportunity to develop various communication materials based on this existing style.
During the first week of my internship, I was tasked with creating a placemat for marketing this festival. Considerable thought went into making it interactive for children without requiring pencils or phones. We also focused on how to encourage children to reflect on certain questions or engage with the games. Eventually, this placemat was distributed with lunch orders at the restaurant for three weeks.
For My First Smartphone Festival, I created various banners and posters. In this process, I carefully considered the colors used, their application, and the purpose behind each design. There were many adjustments made to the sponsor banner, and I engaged in thorough consultation regarding the Hallo Kids Radio banner.
I also created wristbands, stock sheets for artists, foam boards for the entrance, and various other promotional materials for this festival. It was a substantial amount of work to complete in just a week and a half, but I am extremely proud of the results.
